5. Document any large recent deposits Anything unusual needs a paper trail: where it came from, in writing.
6. List your monthly debts Car payments, student loans, credit card minimums, child support — the full picture.
7. Decide your comfortable monthly payment Not the maximum — the number that fits your actual life. This anchors everything.
8. Freeze all new credit activity No new cards, no financing offers, nothing — from now until keys.
